Am I a failure?

The depressing economic conditions will surely make Nigerians feel like failures. See massive job losses and spiralling economic depression. It is enough for you to take a retrospective look at yourself and then you are forced to ask these questions:

Am I a failure?

What can I do if I fail during this pandemic?

Am I A Failure?

This is a short story of a man who always loves to dream big. He also adores people around him celebrating his ideas. He is the type you’ll call a master mind because he is full of so many big and wonderful ideas. One day, he decided to execute a plan of his. He felt he could also become wealthy through this big idea of his. He approached the leader of a group of street urchins known in Lagos State as “Agbero”. He explained how they can maximize their profits by digitizing payments extorted from bus drivers, motorcycle riders and even local traders at the bus stops.

He explained the need for the bus stops have a more corporate look and so on. Of course, the leader of the “Agberos” and his colleagues all made fun of him and cynically advised him to tell all that to Buhari, the president of Nigeria.

What to do during failure

What was the problem of our man with big ideas? He could have made the street urchins very rich and probably improved Lagos State pathetic transport issues. He failed because his approach to solving problems was wrong. The Lagos transport touts do not care about technology. They only care about extorting money from anyone using the bus stops. Likely, the ‘Agberos’ were more brilliant in advising him to approach the presidency. Why many of us fail is because we have great ideas, but implementation is our major issue.

What can I do if I fail during this pandemic?

We cause ourselves to fail as a result of daily habits. What this simply means is that you need to carry out some small tweaks in order to make your life better. This may include your daily office work, playing your favorite sport, anything that you can do at your very best.

The pandemic has robbed so many people of their means of livelihood. But if you are a family person and a teacher, have you tried doing something like washing cars, serving in a restaurant or any other thing that can bring home at least #2000 daily? That beats sulking and begging for assistance.

How can I prevent failure?

Some things you really need to work on include to prevent failure include:

1. Take good care of your health

They say your health is your wealth. Avoid getting sick during this pandemic. Improve on your diet. Do more exercise.

2. Work on your emotion

Spend your time with people who will encourage you. People who are demotivating you or always bringing you down can never be your well-wishers. They will only demoralise you. You can’t overcome your present predicament if you are surrounded by such people. People who will make you feel that the end is here, please stay way from them.

3. Improve your mental strength

This is the right time to be creative. Write a book. Start a blog. Learn a trade. Learn some thing hands-on. Research into how new things are made. Nobody is too old to learn. So get up and do something new that will add value to yourself.

The moment you step up with a lasting solution, you not only assure yourself of success, but you upgrade the society you are living in. So get up. Find as much of the answers to the problems we have.

Final Word

Whatever you do, remember to put your 100% into it, because there are ONLY two outcomes for success: it’s either, you SUCCEED, or you LEARN from failure and try again. Look at it this way, whatever the outcome, it will be a win-win situation.
