If you are not familiar with who Reno Omokori is, then let me give you an intro. Reno was the former Special Media Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, he was noted for using social media to conduct surveys. But recently, he has a penchant for using social media in creating acrimonious irritation against the ruling political party, APC.
Reno, using his twitter handle @renoomokri, vilified President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent medical tourism to the United Kingdom amidst an ongoing strike by Nigeria’s medical doctors. Reno also used his sarcastic tweet in stating out the failure of the Nigerian president. Here is Reno Omokri’s tweet:
“He met Naira at ₦199 to $1. Now it is ₦485 to $1
He met unemployment at 10%. Now it is 33%
He met other Presidents using Aso Rock Clinic. Now he’s London
He met fuel at ₦87. Now, it is ₦221
He met Boko Haram. He added herdsmen and bandits
Join me to #HarassBuhariOutofLondon.”
The tweet, as at the moment of this publication, had 1882 retweets and had gathered 3945 likes.
Staunch loyalists to the president were quick to condemn Reno’s tweet.
Reno did have supporters. These people showed allegiance to the former media aide’s statement. They also expressed their disdain for the ruling government.
This is not the first time Reno had sunk fangs into Buhari and the APC cohorts. In fact, over the years, Reno had been a serial attacker of the president. In his former tweets, he had described Buhari as, “a dictator who doesn’t want to leave office.”
On August 17, 2017, the Department of State Security attempted to arrest Reno at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja without success. Three days later, the ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressive Congress, branded Omokri, along with former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governors Nyesom Wike and Willie Obiano as people who displayed “hatred, narrow-mindedness and meanness” to President Muhammadu Buhari.
