Wizkid, the 30-year-old Nigerian musician, has given the Twitter community some dramatic moment after calling the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, an “old man”.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, could not keep her cool and replied to Wizkid even calling him a ‘dumb kid’. She said that the musician displayed his ignorance, insensitivity, and childishness by addressing the president as an old man.
Supporters of the president also blasted Wizkid saying he has no respect and no manners. But, the question is, “is our president, not an old man?” So where is the insult in Wizkid’s tweet? This was the exact view of @uthman38798206 who tweeted, “I read this post more than twice and I can’t find any insult in it. Is Buhari not an old man? Some people with their rat mentality sha.”
The message sent by @wizkidayo went like this:
“Donald Trump is not your business!
Old man! Police/Sarz still killing
Nigerian youth on a daily! Do something!
Nothing concern u for America!
Face your country !!”
Earlier, President Buhari, @MBuhari, sent a condolence tweet to Donald Trump saying:
“I wish US President, Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, quick and full recovery from Covid-19.”
Some Twitter followers said that we should cut Wizkid some slacks. That we should give him kudos for bravery, despite his rudeness, for pointing out the obvious none response of Buhari to Nigerians, who suffer from the alleged brutality at the hands of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police. Especially the youths, who have become SARS officers’ favorite targets.
Wizkid, in his message also urged the government to do something about the incessant killings of the youths by Police officials.
Check out Nigerians who did not take kindly to the young musician’s calling President Buhari an old man.
It was reported that a Nigerian lady renounced her support for popular Wizkid because he called him an ‘old man’. The lady who is simply identified as Zara Gambo tweeted:
“Wizkid calling Buhari “old man” is uncalled for tbh as he could call him to act against SARS illegitimate operations without disrespecting him. If disrespecting elderly people or VIPs is what would make him modern Fela then I’m no longer wizkid stan. I support no disrespect. #EndSarsNow”
Nairalanders, in their usual brazen manner, didn’t take it easy with her as they poured out venomous responses to the message. Here are a few of Nairalander’s replies to Zara Gambo.
The Twitter war rages on as @blackfacebaija of the defunct Plantashun Boiz weighed in his opinion, saying:
“Why don’t you face your music small man? I understand why that is difficult because it doesn’t have any substance #ChildrenOfNowAdays 🇳🇬”
Trust fans of Wizkid not to take kindly to Blackface’s comment.
As far as this online war rages on, I am on the side of the truth no matter how it is told. What Wizkid said is a repeat of the obvious TRUTH. I see it as a response to the emotional weariness of not having the Nigeria of our dreams after 60 years.
